My work is led by an interest in form and exploration of the materials themselves.
I am currently working in high fired terracotta clay using slips and simple glazes to produce mainly functional pots. I am fascinated by contrasts between coloured slips and the underlying dark red terracotta body; textures resulting from brushwork and other methods of slip application; and tactile variations resulting from the traces left by the contrasting soft and hard throwing and turning processes.
I use simple lead free glazes and fire to a relatively high temperature for earthenware to produce a denser body and a quality somewhere between lower fired earthenware and stoneware.
